Well you want to optimize each site and/or email you have so you know what to look for to make those necessary improvements. That’s how a tool like Google Analytics can benefit. In this post I will talk about the different metrics you can use to track the performance of your sites!

For the longest I didn’t track any of my capture pages, sales pages, blogs, you name it I didn’t track it.
And because of this, I didn’t progress with my home businesses as far as i wanted to. Why? Because I didn’t know the first thing to do in order to get better results. I didn’t have the data or indicators to tell me what areas I needed to improve on.
Many of you are working hard but yet aren’t getting anywhere.
Before pointing fingers at any one of you reading this, I must first look at myself. I can be very, very, very lazy. What do I mean by this?
I can really get into a routine, work hard at it but yet show no improvements. It’s as though I’m that hamster inside of a wheel running hard in place but not going anywhere.
I remembers this saying a friend of mine told me which goes something like “The hardest working people are the laziest”. So like the hamster, you get caught up in a routine or habit, but don’t want to think outside of that routine.
Have you ever met people that only want to do things that doesn’t require a lot of thinking? You figure this is why people who use their minds more so than their bodies to do physical labor get paid the most.
I’m not trying to disrespect anyone who works hard, but I also don’t want to hide the truth. For some of us, the truth can be hard to swallow.
This is a kick in the butt and a lot of us need this in order to progress forward. So in regards to growing our home businesses, many of us got ourselves in a rut that we really want to get out of.
You want to see the fruits of your labor, right?!
You want to be in the one person that created the option to quick your job and live off of the cash flow from your business.
This is why it’s so important to track the performances of our sites. We need to know how to keep the ball rolling so that we are stuck in limbo.
That’s the benefit of using an analytical tool like Google Analytics. But a lot of us don’t know where to begin with a tool like this. You ask yourself “I built a Sales Funnel, now why am I not improving? What do I do now?” Well lets find out…
Tying Google Analytics To Your Sales Funnel
Here’s a statement that you must adhere to..
“If you have a home business and no sales funnel, then you have no business”
This is how important having a sales funnel is. You want to create a process for all of your visitors to go through in order for them to become leads and eventually customers.
Many of us focus directly on our capture pages/optin boxes, leads, and sales only. Don’t get me wrong, this is fine if you’re getting way more than expected, but if you’re not seeing any improvements then it’s best to see why.
So you may ask what exactly do you want to focus on in general?
You want to tailor your sales funnel based on the psyche of your target audience. You want to be able to set goals, figure out why or why not your reaching your goals and you want to see where traffic stops and why it continues.
So what questions can you ask yourself to fix those weak points within your funnel? Here are some of the things you want to ask yourself if visitors are entering your sales funnel via your blog:
- Are you targeting your blog to the right audience?
- How many people are visiting your site?
- How long do they stay on your site?
- Are your visitors growing or decreasing?
- Why are your visitors growing or decreasing?
- What makes them grow or decrease?
- Which optin box or capture page get the most leads?
- How many leads do you get before you make a sale
- At what point within the sales funnel is getting less traffic?
As your leads go through your sales funnel, you want to be checking your metrics within Google Analytics. Some of you may be asking what are metrics?
In Google Analytics there are many metrics to choose from. As a matter of fact, there are so many that it can be overwhelming to choose which one’s would be the best fit for what you want to do.
Well, you’re in luck because I’m going to name 7 metrics you want to focus on in order to help answer the above questions!
7 Metrics To Focus On Within Google Analytics
That targeted niche market audience is who we want to focus on. Who are they? These are the people that’s going to find your information the most interesting. Why? Because you leave a first impression by providing them the data or tools necessary to get them going from the get go.
So if you’re a blogger, you want to provide the type of value that people can implement right then and there. On top of that, you want them to want to return for more information.
If you’re one that loves to fitness, for example, you’re target market could be runners, weight lifters, people that want to lose weight, etc. So your blog should focus on topics like eating healthy, stretches, weight lifting, cardio exercises, etc..
So since you probably already figured out your target audience, how can you measure how well your sites and the sales funnel process your visitors go through? Here are 7 metrics you can use to measure them:
Bounce Rate – The bounce rate is use to measure the quality targeted traffic/visitors that come to your site/blog. Usually the average percentage for a blog would be between 40% – 60%. Anything lower than this is a great sign!
How it is measure? According to Google, it’s measured by how much activity is done by your visitors through visiting other pages, sharing, commenting, engaging, and making purchases.

Sessions – Sessions are based off of the activities within a time frame that occurs on your blog or website. The indicators can be the interactions, transactions made, page views, or events
Average Session Duration – This is the average time your visitors spend on your blog or website.
Goal Urls – This is a crucial task to do. The Goal Urls helps you keep track of your conversions throughout your sales funnel.
In Google Analytics you can find this if you go to Conversions > Goals > Goal URLs
To set your Goal URLs up I’d advice you to read the post Simple Way To Set Up Tracking For Your Sites’ Performance . Again this is a must have if you want to see how you can optimize your blog to the fullest!
Funnel Visualization – Once you set up your Goal URLs, then you can look at the Funnel Visualization. This allows you to see an overview of your Sales Funnel so that you can see what improvements you need to make.

Goal Flow Tab – With the Goal Flow Tab you can check out what type of traffic is converting the most. This is also important so you can focus on a specific traffic to optimize conversions.

Multi Channel Funnels – This provides information of other marketing channels such as Direct Traffic, Organic Traffic, Social Media Traffic, and Referral Traffic that influence conversions.

In my opinion, I believe the reason why the majority of home business entrepreneurs fail and quit is because they don’t check their metrics. I’ve been getting into different opportunities since 2008 and my biggest mistakes was not checking to see how I can improve my marketing although I’ve made sales.
But as you can see, there are tools like Google Analytics that will help you make those necessary changes in order to see improvement in your sales conversions. As me and my friends use to say growing up “Don’t sleep on this!” Take advantage of free tools like Google Analytics so that you can get the results you really want!
