Why do most people quit and why do others hang in there? There are some factors that are reasons why a lot of people quit. In this post, from my experiences, I came up with 5 reasons why people quit their home businesses. So lets go ahead and take a gander at these reasons…
“Age wrinkles the body. Quitting wrinkles the soul.” ~ Douglas MacArthur
How many of you ever thought of quitting?
This is a common thing amongst us all. I can’t even count the many times I thought about quitting my home business, but yet something inside keeps pushing me.
It seems to me the more consistent and resilient I am, the more I believe I have much more to gain as I go. Do you ever feel like this?
I’m always telling myself a story of what will happen once I reach a certain goal. Even outside of my home business, telling stories to myself keeps me alive and kicking!
But what about you?
Do you feel drained or depressed because things aren’t going your way. Does this influence you to quit? Or do you go deeper into why you started a home business in the first place?
A lot of us don’t want to prove our haters to be right, while others don’t care what our haters think and just keep pushing forward. But what about those that get so fatigue by the hate and failure that they believe their only option is to quit?
When people start thinking about quitting, they turn their focus to limitations. They limit themselves by giving excuses about what they can’t succeed. Stories are self told about their time being wasted, the what ifs about their business not working, the fear of being successful and losing their friends, the money being spent trying to build their businesses, and the list goes on.
So how can you get out of this mental rut?
Have A Better Understand Of Why You Want To Quit And Turn
It Around
I believe in order to improve yourself mentally you must have a good understanding why you want to quit. Asking yourself what is it that’s holding you back and how can you neutralize these feelings so that you can move forward? Each time this happens to me, I make a big effort to understand these feelings and figure out a way to cross them out to keep improving. Here are some reasons I came up with why I, as well as others, thought about quitting…
People Aren’t Aligned With Their Business
Did you get into an opportunity because it’s the next best thing since slice bread? Did get involved because the people on your team as well as top earners got involved? If this is the case, this is the wrong reason to get involved. Why? Because you more than likely have the least interest in the business, their products and/or services. Without interest, you have no great reason to promote and really get involved.
You may see a lot of people making a lot of money in it, but that doesn’t mean you are. You want to find something that you resonate well with. This is alignment! The more in tune you are with your business, the greater possibility that you will be successful.
People Have Low Expectations
Starting a home business is a great thing, right? You get to work with people you want, go on trips, and make as much money that you want. The problem is a lot of people that get involved really don’t fully believe it. In fact they have low expectations of what can actually happen for them. Instead, they’re always trying to be “Real” with themselves. Well keep this in mind: Whatever you focus on is what’s being “Real” is all about! Remember the Henry Ford quote “Whether you think you can, or you think you can’t, you’re right!”
There’s No Support
You know what sucks? When you have no support from your friends or family. These people are the ones that suppose to have your back, right? But here’s the thing you got to remember. You got to live your own life! If they’re not going to be supportive of you, find people who will! Educate yourself, motivate yourself, do what you have to do to keep moving because in the end, it’s all on you.
They Don’t Have An Emotional Why
You know the best way to sell is to tap into other peoples emotions. If that’s the case, why not sell yourself by doing the same thing? Why go off of what you been conditioned to believe if it really doesn’t resonate with you? There’s got to be some type of emotions that’s attached to why you’re doing this? This is the fuel that’s going to keep you going!
Challenges Are Considered Obstacles
Perception is everything! You chose your reason why you go forward or go backwards. Either you come across challenges or you come across obstacles. Either way it goes, they’re in the same painting. But remember in science class, two things can’t occupy the same space. You’re either intrigued by the challenge or you’re disenchanted by obstacles.
Now It’s Your Turn!
What reasoning comes to mind when you think about quitting? What do you do to turn these thoughts around? How do you get back in stride again? Please share your comments below and share this post with your friends. I look forward to reading them!

I never think about quitting because I operate on the basis that I am always at choice. When you know that your life is an adventure of endless possibilities, everything is more fun and guilt-free. You make some great points, Sherman. And I love the quotation about how quitting wrinkles the soul. I can’t quite picture that. LOL.

Hey Mary,
I like the way you think. Many people have the mindset of limitation. I know I did, thats why I felt like quitting before many times, until I ran into more options. Then I figured, why quit when there’s so many possibilities out there! LOL Thanks for your insight!

Hey Sherman,
What I’ve learned about people over the years that have been involved with the business is that they think they are not “good enough”. It goes along with not having belief in themselves they they will make it. Some even fail on purpose so that they won’t have to deal with success. I know it sounds crazy, but it’s what I’ve seen happen in our industry. Great tips here brother!

Hey Nate,
I know what you mean. This is something that has been conditioned within us since we were kids. It’s sad, but it’s true. I really think it’s up to us to show them the options that they can take and to indirectly give them belief in themselves. Thanks for your insight Nate!
Hi Sherman,
Honestly I can’t say that I ever thought about quitting. I think that many people who get started in a business tend to think that it’s going to be easy and quick.
When they realize that it takes a lot of work to gain success they quit to try to find something easier.
I think that if you have a goal and keep those goals in mind, it will be more difficult to walk away from your business.
Great tips and I hope you have a wonderful day.
Hey Susan,
Yes, I believe that when people start a business they think that they’re going to be on easy street and money is going to start flowing in. I also believe that they don’t have a strong belief that success can happen to them. They believe that it’s a “good thing” to start a business.
So you definitely have to have strong goals, and even more a strong believe that will carry you through despite the trials and tribulations! Thanks for your insight!

Sherman,
Great post here, This is why mindset is such a main focus in this industry. Having the right mindset helps you to not only have success in your business but eliminates the “I want to quit” idea.
Hey Jason,
You’re mindset definitely has to be on point if you start a business venture. It took me a while to realize it, but now Im engulfed in it. When a strong mindset, quitting will never be an option!
sherman smith recently posted…Why Just Posting Your Link Your Opportunity Doesn’t Work Well
Hi Sherman,
I have to admit there have been times I’ve thought of quitting but usually it’s because something didn’t go right that day or a series of things went awry. I’ve learned to walk away, take some time to relax and usually the next day, I’m up and ready to start again.
I agree that a lot of people decide to quit because they have been led to believe earning online is fast, easy and can happen in hours or days and then reality sets in.
Great post. Have a great evening. Monna

Hey Monna,
Yes I do admit that I too thought about quitting. Especially for the fact that the support from friends and family wasn’t there. But I figure I revolve my life around myself rather than other people’s opinions.
Yes a lot of people do think it’s easy. Especially if they do their business online! But of course they run into the trials and tribulations that they’re not prepared for. This is why it’s so important to focus on building a strong mindset so that you can be well prepared for them whenever they come.

I think lack of strategy is a big reason why a lot of home based business shuts down before their time.
One needs to understand the process – which includes budget, time allocation, small goals and how to achieve them – and the final targets.
But all this requires you to be serious about your business – and if it is only done as an experiment, to pass some unused time or for fun – the results might not be so good!
cheers,
Uttoran Sen,
hey Uttoran,
This is definitely a valid reason also. A lack of strategy will have you look like an octopus on rollerskates. You’ll have your hands dipped in every strategy but won’t go anywhere.
Have a strategy, or better yet, as you said understanding the process will keep you on the road you need to be on in order to move forward, and to keep moving forward. But your foundation is having the mindset to do so! Thanks for your insight!

Hey Sherman,
There have been plenty of times that I’ve been super frustrated but never to the point of quitting. Maybe quitting a particular training or company but never the business itself.
I can see why some people would definitely get to that point though. The frustration level becomes high and you feel like there is no one that is there to help you.
I do believe though that if you feel you’re meant to be here then you’ll move through those feelings and find a way. Those are the people who end up making it so I sure hope we see more of those instead of the other way around.

Hey Adrienne
Aint frustration a killer! It can definitely put it toll of your expectations. But nevertheless, I believe it helps you find out what you need to focus on.
Yes there are so many trainings that tell you what tools and what strategies will do for you, but I’ve been on some trainings that also reminds us that it also may not work out of us.
I definitely agree that if you feel you’re meant to be here then you’ll move on. Those that do, find out that there are so many more options than what they believe before. With that in mind, they create their own road to success!
Thanks for your insight Adrienne!
Hi Shermnan,
You are spot on about some people wanting to get “Real” again! How sad. Henry Ford’s quote is one that many people who do not really understanding how our subconscious mind works would argue.
Like Adrienne, I felt super-frustrated many times. Yet, I knew that I just needed to find out what exactly the ‘missing ingredient’ is. Thanks to my childhood dream wanting to be a detective!
You are right, I focused on finding solutions. There was no room for the idea of quitting. I am glad that I pushed through the various obstacles 🙂
Network Marketing is less complicated then most people think! For those who feel like wanting to quit, here is my advice : Get ‘real’ – real skills, real system & mentor and real action. This is the only way to get real results.
Thanks, Sherman, for this insightful post!
Viola Tam – The Business Mum
Hey Viola,
There are two ways to deal with frustration. You can let it make you or let it break you. For a lot of us, we let it break us out of desperation. For those that push on, we let it redirect our thinking to find the answers to our problems.
This is the key. Focusing on finding the answers to our problems. If there were no problems, there will be no answers. I guess you can say its the yin and yang philosophy!
Network marketing is really not that complicated as well as any home business. All you have to do is keep your mind open to those things that’s going to help propel you! So yes, we have to be “real” with ourselves in order to push forward.
Thanks for your insight!

I like what you write about perception.
And I know it is not very nice if there is no support from friends and family ,but this is what makes me not quit 🙂

Hi Sherman,
Wonderful post.
We must always remind ourselves of our end-goals and why we got started. Many beginners will feel like giving-up, especially when things don’t work out. I am sure many successful entrepreneurs had the same issue but what makes them successful was the word ‘quitting’ is not an option. It’s in the mindset.
Hey Justin,
We definitely have to keep reminding ourselves of why we doing it and keep our imaginations alive until we get what we want. There are times that we all felt like quitting, but we also have to keep in mind of how many options there are we can leverage in order to get to our destination. Like you said, it’s all mindset! Thanks for your comment!

I think it is much easier to have a job than to work for yourself. You do specific things that someone else tells you to do. You collect a check and go home. Having your own business tho brings up all kinds of insecurities, doubt, more so than a “job”. So many people quit. Developing a “CEO” mindset can help and being willing to take responsibility, own what you do. Quitting hurts. But sticking with it, no matter what can yield so many benefits, more than a job.

Hey Lesly,
It’s much easier to have a job because we don’t have to think as much LOL… sad but true! When we start a business we definitely go through the insecurities and doubt. We’re not sure that we’ll be able to make but yet this is something that we all want. But you know what! In the end, it makes us a better person surrounded with people who have grown with you! Thanks for your insight!

Sherman, I love those reasons you have outlined – I think you’ve hit the nail on the head.
But quitting is not an option in my book – I believe the way to work on it to be able to identify those hurdles and face them, and get over them – they can be anything! I’ve just spent 1 hour sorting out an issue in my sharebar, but every little woopsie is a lesson learned, a hurdle behind, and a small achievement – and information to help others with.
I love to help folks with hurdles, and often talking with someone else helps to focus what you need to do.
Great post Sherman 🙂

Hi Sherman,
I love all the reasons why people think of quitting. Sometimes we don’t see that ‘for the forest’ so to speak. There’s so much going on, we can’t narrow down why we feel that way.
I think you’re right. Most people feel that way at least once in a while, and usually more than once.
I also think that the low expectations is one of the most important reason for thinking of quitting although all of the have some influence. You have to believe in yourself before you can even being this journey.
Great that you’ve brought these to our attention. Great job.
Take care
Barbara

Hey Barbara,
Hes sometimes we don’t see “The forest”… I also like this quote I learned from Steve Harvey “sometimes you pass a forest while looking for some trees”. We skip so many opportunities to get ahead in our businesses because we’re looking for one certain thing to get ahead.
So we kick ourselves, become depressed, and start conjuring thoughts of why we’re not going to make it. When we go this route and stay focused on it, then eventually quitting becomes that option.
Also, when we just have low expectations in general, then yes, we will quit. This is why it’s so important to focus on mindset training and keep our options open to get ahead in business. There are so many out there, we just have to pick and choose!
Thanks for your insight Barbara!
