If you’re a novice at online marketing or even advanced, you not only get to know Google Analytics but also another free tool called Google Webmaster Tools. Now the idea of the two are very similar as far as traffic and optimizing your sites, but they play two different, distinct roles. Let’s make make those distinctions.
The Role Of Google Analytics
The role of google analytics is to give your reports on who’s coming to your sites. There are a slew of data you can get on the incoming traffic, keywords, conversions, and how you can improve:
- Unique Visitors that come to your site
- Returning Visitors
- Referral Visitors
- Keywords that get the most traffic
- Keywords that give you the most sales
- Key words that keep the visitors on your site
- Pages/View by visitors
- Pages the bring the most traffic
- Pages with highest bounce rate
The role of Google Webmaster Tools is to give you the perspective of how google see’s your site. You can use this tool to fix any problems with your site and optimize to give google view of your site:
If you want to get your site ranked up high, then google has to crawl, or analyze, your site in order to give it a good or bad ranking. If there are errors this gives you a chance to see what they are and correct them so that you’ll have a better chance at getting good rankings and more traffic.
If you have any HTML coding errors google will notify you about the errors and where to correct them.
Google will notify you if your site becomes infected with malware. Google can block your site if you becomes real infected and won’t unblock until you clean it up.
Google can give you a report of the searches to your website on Google. You can see the pages that were searched (queried) and what most popular pages that were queried. This function is probably the most important one out of all the tools within Google Webmaster Tools.
Now it’s Your Turn!
I hope this clears things up on the differences. So what tools do you use? Do you use both Analytics and Webmaster Tools? Please comment below and share this past with your friends. I look forward to reading them!
