When it comes to your blog and your home business you definitely want to find ways to keep progressing. You want to be the better person that you were yesterday. I don’t do New Years Resolutions anymore because I believe that if you want to start something, you should start right then and there instead of waiting on a specific time. But in this case, It will be contrary to this belief since it is a good time to reflect and see what you need to do to keep improving. So in this post I like to share with you my To Do List for this year based on what I have been doing within the last couple of months. Hopefully it will give you some great ideas of what you can do.
“Without reflection, we go blindly on our way, creating more unintended consequences, and failing to achieve anything useful.” ~ Margaret J. Wheatley
How do you keep progressing?
Some of you may feel like you’re going backwards, while others of you may not know how to take that step forward.
If this is you, one thing that you and me have in common is that it can definitely be frustrating when this is happening. Especially when you feel stagnant.
It seems like everyone is progressing except for you right? Then you believe that you need to disassociate yourselves from them because you feel kind of like the “third wheel”. I mean why would anyone want to associate with you, you ask yourselves.
But one thing about the blogging community is that everyone is there to help you. Yes, you may run into a few people that have the “Every man for himself” mentality, but for the most part the average blogger share their problems, their solutions, and help you when needed.
At least that’s been my experience for the past couple of years.
I can definitely owe my progression to a lot of bloggers out there.
What I want to do with this post is share some things I plan on doing to keep progressing as a blogger and an entrepreneur. I’m also hoping that you can get some ideas of how you can improve if you feel like you’re not progressing.
To Do List For This New Year of 2015
One cliche I say quite frequently is being an Octopus on roller-skates. You ever tried to do a bunch of strategies at once? How far did you get with them? Most people don’t get too far. At least I didn’t.
Yes it’s true, as entrepreneurs you want to do things at that moment in time. You never want to “drag your feet” if you want tasks to be done. But at the same time, you want to do this in moderation or else you’ll go crazy!
So this year I want to take my time, and do two or three different tasks a month. It helps me keep things in a more objective, orderly fashion as well as provide enough quality, contextual content to others.
So without further adieu, here is a list of things I came up with thus far that I like to do for this year!
Create More Videos
This is something I’ve been ignoring for a long time. Why? Well there’s the fear factor of course, and also I was more focused on being a blogger, meaning “writing”.
Why? Well I was looking at the fact that I read blogs at work and I usually skip those blogs that have videos because of that. Besides, for me blogging really meant writing for your audience, but as Google Symantec started to take over, the more of having diverse content became more of a benefit.
Yes, you can use other types of content like audios, infographs, slide share, etc., but you also have to think of your audience as well. They want to see the physical you behind the blog. So why not add a video from time to time to your blog?
This is a another great way to build relationships, which results in building better business relationships, as well as using blogging as a strategy to personally brand yourself is a powerful way to build stronger relationships!
Comment On More Blogs
This is something I haven’t had trouble with. Commenting is definitely a powerful way to build relationships, and also send traffic back to your blog.
I’ve have been attracting people to comment on my blog. Whenever they leave a comment, they will have the option to leave link to the last post they did. Not only this creates a backlink for Search Engine’s to send traffic back to their blogs, but also it’s an incentive for your visitors to leave a comment.
With the Commentluv Premium plugin, it gives those that leave comments the option to pick one link back to one of their last 10 blog posts. This will make their link visible for others to see, and also it makes it easier for me to click on their link to also comment on their blogs. If you don’t have This Plugin, I highly recommend that you install it on your wordpress blog.
As far as commenting on more blogs, I like to comment on more Highly Influential bloggers as well. The reason being is that they have a much bigger following and influence. If I were to get notice then I anticipate that my content will be shared by a bigger audience who already have a strong trust with the influencer.
As of right now, I comment on an average of 25 blogs per week. I would like to start out by comment on 30 blogs a week. They will have a higher PR (Page Rank), low Alexa Rating of 100,000 or less, and a high volume of shares.
Write Better Email Messages For Autoresponder
I have written messages for my email autoresponder and quite frankly I want to make them better and more enticing.
The message will include the prewritten messages for those that opt into my subscriber list and the broadcast message that I send out once a week. I want my list to get the tools and answers they can use instantly after reading my messages.
I also want to build a better relationship with my list through my autoresponder as well. at the end of each month I want to be able to get a better “feel” for any topics they are interested in. I want to know what they’re struggling with, and I like to share my struggles and the solutions I used to overcome those struggles even more so.
Segment My List Better
In a Previous Post I talked about the importance of segmenting your list. You definitely want to be able to set up an optin box that will lead your subscribers to a list of emails that they will be most interested in.
I would like to clean up my lists a lot better. I’ll start off by writing better email messages with enough value that my subscribers can use instantly and create a couple of more lists that will distinguish my subscribers even more so.
I like to know who’s just looking for information, who’s buying, why’re they’re buying and who’s looking to take advantage of discounts. Also I like to show my subscribers who’s commenting on my blog and how many comments they shared for the past month which also shows social proof.
Use Other Features In Google Analytics
When it comes to knowing what to do as far as targeting your audience and attracting the “cream of the crop”, then knowing your metrics is vital.
Being able to use tools like Google Analytics helps a lot with this! There are so many different features on Google Analytics that it can be quite overwhelming, but starting out with the basics it a lot less stressful and you’ll get more out of it.
But now since I know what to look for as far as growing my target market and make those necessary improvements for my sales/marketing funnel, now I want to see what else that Google Analytics has to offer.
Brush Up The Courage To Ask To Write Guest Posts
Although I’ve been blogging since 2010, I’ve never done a guest post! Ironically there were a few bloggers that interviewed me which I highly appreciated, and still do. But why hasn’t anyone ask me to write for them? For one, I don’t think anyone was that interested, and two, I wasn’t too confident in my writing.
I never was considered a great writer, but I do have to say that I’ve improved a lot throughout the years. I believe the reason being is that I’ve become more personal and have made myself be able to relate more to my audience as time progressed.
I still don’t have a lot of confidence in my writing, but I will brush up enough courage to ask to become a guest blogger for this year. I’ve read a lot of blogs that have recommended this because you open yourself to an even wider audience.
It’s all about becoming a better version of yourself each and everyday. Yes there will be some set backs, but why let that scare you to limit yourself,? So I will push myself to ask to do more guest posts for other bloggers even if no one asks me to do so. If I have a topic that will benefit the blog and their audience, then I will voice it to those specific bloggers!
Market Specific Posts More
When it comes to seeing patterns within your most commented and shared blog posts, then common sense would tell you to share these posts more often.
Although I have been sharing these post through tools like Revive Old Post and Buffer, it just wasn’t enough. So to maintain the traffic I already have and to gain more traffic, I like to share the post that my audience love the most even more so.
When you write great content that people love, then you want to add it to your marketing campaign and promote it even more! This is another reason why it’s so important to check out your stats on tools like Google Analytics. You want to make sure that you’re optimizing your marketing efforts so that you’re not just wasting a lot of valuable time!
It’s all about figuring out ways to improve. If you’re struggling or feel like you’re going backwards, then how much time are you putting in to figure what you can do to go forward?
Do you actually believe you can go forward? Are you using your set backs as something valuable you can retell to others who are in the same boat so they can relate to you? What options have you added to your arsenal to help get you out of the hole so that you can keep progressing?
It all starts off with the mind! If the way you’re thinking isn’t helping you, then you definitely want to make those necessary changes so that you can be aligned with success.
Now It’s Your Turn!
This post is more like a personal contract, or better yet, a way to keep myself in check on this entrepreneurial journey. I have made a lot of progress in 2014 and I want to maintain and improve on this even further. But enough about me, what about you?
What goals have you set for yourself to make this a better year for you? Has this post given you some ideas of what you can do? What are you lacking in and what are you doing to rectify your problems?
What improvements have you made in the previous year? Has your good results ceased at anytime? If so, what did you do to keep your good results? Have they been improving?
Please share your comments below and share this post with your friends. I look forward to read them!
