When you’re able to figure out something that’s been taught and repeated to you over and over again you feel like that manifestation is the best gift in the world. Well at least for me it feels similar to a spiritual gift, an enlightenment.
This is how 2013 felt like to me.
It was a year of much much enlightenment as far as figuring things out. It was the importance of what was taught to me as well as figuring out the connection of what was taught.
If you’ve been in the home business game as long as I have or even longer, it’s amazing to see all the roads that you took to become successful and the roads you’ve created. You see that you have been growing up with online marketing and witnessed all of the changes that have taken placed.
You see all of the opportunities that come and go, all of the tools being used, all of the relationships that were built, all of the people that either stuck with it or vanished.
But one thing that I definitely commend are those of us that stuck with it, despite all of the obstacles that we went up against. Especially those that finally started seeing a lot of success.
In 2013 I really realized how simple the road to success is, the only thing is that it’s just not that easy to get to. One major fact that holds us back are ourselves. We second guess things, go back and forth to whether it’s going to work or not, and a lot of us procrastinated out of fear.
A lot of us seen a lot of failure. As a matter of fact for the majority of us 95% of what we did were failures. But the thing that kept us going was that little voice inside of us that made that joint venture of our why’s, and we fueled it up with a specific passion.
This opened up the gates to all of the avenues we could take and the epiphanies that were realized. It’s amazing to see how powerful how little belief, our why, and passion we have can attract.
Epiphanies That Stopped The Confusion And The Coming To Realization!
I really do feel that when it comes to being successful with a home business, as well as anything, you definitely want to make sure that you have a really strong foundation in the basics! Especially when it comes to online marketing. There are so many tools and strategies out there that it can become really confusing!
Although I’ve written post on having the basics down in years past, it really didn’t hit me until 2013. Once I came to this realization, I started to cut out a lot of fat that was holding me back so that I can just focus on the core. Once I started doing this, that’s when I really started to become more aligned with what I was trying to do.
Many of you may be going through the same thing. You may be using a lot of tools, going through a lot of trainings, and listening to a lot of advice, but yet not really going anywhere. In this case, sometimes we need to cut out the clutter and go back to basics. Which is why I like to share a list of my own epiphanies…
You’ve probably heard time and time again about having the right mindset. But this goes to show how important and valid this really is. I don’t want to sound like a broken record, but I thought of a list of questions that has everything to do with you in order to be aligned with your business:
Who do I have to become in order to build a successful home business?
What reputation do I want to build?
How can I be approachable?
How can I attract the people I want?
Who are the people I want to attract?
Why do I want to attract these people?
Why am I even doing this?
How important is my why?
Have I reached the core reason why Im doing this?
How can I be a person of value to the people I want to attract?
Why would people want to know anything about me?
How can my target audience relate to me?
Do I respond or react to failures?
How can I engage people?
Am I being transparent and fun or monotonous and boring?
How can I build trust?
What are my greatest attributes?
What am I really passionate about?
What am I really interested in?
Questions like this help you focus on becoming more aligned with yourself, your purpose, and how you can be attractive to people in general as well as the specific audience you want to attract. Also know why you’re doing this and being passionate about the actions you take will make you feel more “one” with your home business or whatever you feel your purpose is. These are the questions I really asked myself in 2013. Instead of trying to convince people and figuring out persuasion techniques, you have to make sure that you are aligned with your home business. Once this is done, this creates a strong foundation and from there everything else will start to fall in place.
The one thing that a lot of us have a big fear of is rejection. When we first start our home business we have this belief that we have to “sell” people to our beliefs and eventually “sell” them our offers. When people think of “selling” they think of convincing people even if they feel that our offers isn’t right for them.
Many of you are in MLM, Affiliate Marketing, et cetera, and you’ve been taught to never convince although a lot of us subconsciously rejected this teaching. Leaders taught you want to build rapport and relationships with those that you approach or opt into your site. Some of you may disagree, but I find that at least 80% of the sell are the alignment and relationships that you build with your target audience. When you’re able to relate to them and they’re able to relate to you, then it’ll be much easier for you to make more sales. This is how important building relationships are! Here are some questions you can ask yourself to get aligned with them:
What do you have in common with your target audience?
What past mistakes you made that your target audience can relate to?
What does your target audience really want?
What problems is your target audience going through?
What’s holding your target audience back?
What information does your target audience really want to know?
Are you genuine with your relationships with them?
Are you sharing your lifestyle with your target audience?
Can your story relate to your target audience?
What stories can you share that your target audience can relate to?
Do they feel that you’re just trying to make money from them?
How are you going to genuinely help them?
What’s about that’s attractive to them?
How can you make their day better?
You’re alignment with others are what I consider to be the second step of growing your home business. When you become aligned with others, especially your target audience, this will make the foundation of growing your business even stronger.
Once you can establish the importance of building relationships, now you want to figure out what tools and strategies you can use to make those connections. Tools are made and used to make your connects more convenient for you, not to make money for you. This is something I really needed to get through my head although I knew better.
The Convenience and Why We Use Tools To Connect With Our Target Audience
There are so many tools that many of us get affiliated with but yet get lost in the process of us building our businesses. The next best thing seems to be put off to the side whenever we invest in them. Whenever this happens, we become misaligned with ourselves, our business, purpose, and with our target audience.
What I realized is that the purpose of online and offline marketing tools is to make genuine connections. Yes we can go to BNI meetings, conferences, etc., but also these different tools makes it a lot more convenient for us because of the external reach. We could reach and connect with those that otherwise would be impossible for us. This is why I thank God for Social Media and Email Marketing!
Even though there are many other ways to connect with people, Social Media and Email Marketing are the most popular and yet convenient tools that we currently use. On top of that they have been integrated in our daily lives which makes it even easier for us.
When I first started doing online marketing, I really didn’t realize the importance of using social media, email marketing and other marketing tools. But in 2013, I had this strong epiphany and realization how important building relationships are and why it’s important to utilize these tools in order to make those connections to build relationship with my audience. The majority of people will only do business with people or a brand that they know, trust, and can definitely relate to.
Here are some ways you can use Social Media and Email Marketing to really connect with your target audience:
Give your audience a brief history about yourself
Share what you learned
Share what you read
Share your struggles
What obstacles have you been through?
What solutions did you come across?
Ask your audience what they’re struggling with?
Share what you did for the day
Share what you did for the weekend
Ask random questions that doesn’t have anything to do with business
Share what hobbies you do
Ask your audience how you can be of help to them
Share a joke
Share what vacation spots you go to and what you do there
So in other words, share how human you are, and that you’re not all about business. This is something I realized in 2013. Humans connect with humans, and if you’re sharing value you’ll receive value. When you’re in the state of mind, you will always come in full circle. You’re prospects, leads, or target audience will get what they want and you will eventually get what you want!
In the beginning of 2013 one of my goals is to become much more familiar with Google analytics. At that time I didn’t have a definitely why I should, but I knew there was a good reason why it would be wise to get familiar.
Then I watched a video by Nicky Price who is from the UK. She mentioned the secret to her success was that she knew her metrics. Your marketing metrics is knowing how many people come to your site per/time (month, week, day), how often they come, where do they come from, what words they use to get to your site, how many opt into your site, and so on and so forth.
Although this was straight forward answer and others have mentioned the importance of this before, a light bulb came on. Yes I know, call me slow, but now it’s ingrained in my brain. Here are a couple of blog posts I did on the Alexa Rating and Google Analytics.
If you are doing any type of marketing, especially online marketing, it’s important that you know the metrics. You want to figure out how you can improve your sales conversions with the use of the information that these metrics deliver to you.
Now as for me, at first, I felt stuck on stupid when I first saw Google Analytics. Although I work as a computer technician, I didn’t know the first thing what to do. And I do have to say that it’s not the most user friendly to set up, but in given time and a lot of research I was able to set it up on my blog and just started recently set up my landing pages as well as other pages.

So as I move further into 2014, what I like to do is strip all the extraneous tools and strategies I’ve been using, and build through out the year. Starting January with a new slate and come up with a simple marketing funnel, using my blog as the forefront, and grow from there.
