If you want to see how you can make improvements on generating traffic to your site then it’s a must that you set up Tracking. One of the simple ways to do this is through the free sites Bitly and Google Analytics. In this post I will show you how you can do this for yourself so you can make the necessary adjustments for all of your landing pages and other sites you may have.
Do you remember those progress reports you use to get from school? For some of us, we look forward to it. But for the rest of us, it was a nightmare. Yes, we all heard about our classmates that use to try to hide these reports from their parents, which always made our parents suspicious. I’m not saying I use to do this, but someone told me that some of my classmates did this 😉
But in either case these reports were beneficial to see how we can improve or why did we fall behind. How else were we going to focus on those A’s and B’s if we don’t track our own progress?
And you know what’s a coincidence?
These types of reports carry on to our adulthood!
If you’ve worked in corporate america, your boss would give you a review once or twice a year to see how you were doing. If you were ever pregnant you had some detail reports about the embryo inside of you. If you were on therapy then there may have been some type of progress report. Catch my drift?
These types of reports helps in all aspects of you, mentally, spiritually, and physically.
But in our case, when it comes to our home businesses, we want to be able to track the performance of our marketing campaigns. So in essence we want to see how well our capture pages, sales pages, etc.. are doing, because without this information, how can we make the necessary adjustments to get the best out them?
Yes, at one time I was the one who would just put out a capture page and not track the performance of it, although I’ve been told over and over again. Can you relate? Sad to say, but I did this for two years. I guess you can see I was trying to hide this type of progress report from myself.
Many times I was told to use Google Analytics, but it was so confusing to me, and at the time I was just getting me feet wet with Online Marketing. Google Analytics looked like a very complicated Geometry/Calculus meticulous problem. So i didn’t bother to get into detail about it until the previous year.
Last year I finally got a much better understanding of Google Analytics and how much it is beneficial for us online marketers. Above all it’s Free to see up and you get a lot of detail that you need.
In This PostI talk about how you get your site Indexed and Discovered using Google Semantics and setting up Google Analytics on your blog to get reports of it’s performance.
Also if you want to know what Metrics to incorporate into Google Analytics as a beginner online marketer, then This Post Is A Must Read!
If you don’t already know, metrics are key indicators used to measure the amount of traffic and conversions you get in order for you to take the necessary steps for improvement.
There are different sites that I’ve seen that help you track all of your sites performance, but a couple of months ago I discovered a simple way to do this. So lets go a little further into this!
Using Bitly and Google Analytics Together To Track Sites’ Performance!
If you haven’t already set up Google Analytics with your WordPress blog, I advise that you do this before you read any further. I may set up a PDF guide on how to set up Google Analytics for those that are still confused by it.
But let’s assume that you already have set up Google Analytics with your blog. This will probably be one of the most important simple strategies that you come across in your online marketing career.
If you don’t know what Bitly is, Bitly is a site you can go to in order to shorten your URL. This is popular among avid twitter users since you only have a limited amount of characters you can use per tweet. Especially if you want to retweet someone else’s sites. Usually you would put some type of code at the end of your URL to track each website performance, but for me Bitly is much easier. So lets get started!
1. Go to https://bitly.com/ to log in or set up your account
2. Enter Website of choice in space provided
3. Copy The Shorten URL
4. Go To http://www.google.com/analytics/ and click on your website or blog of choice to track your shortened URL
5. Click On Admin
6. Click on Goals and then Click on +New Goal
7. Give Goal a Name and Destination
8. Click On Custom and then Next Step
9. Enter Shortened URL you copied and Click Create Goal
Now that’s it for creating tracking. If you want to see the peformance. Go back to your home page for google analytics, click your website or blog. On left side, click on Conversions, Goals, and Goal URLs
You will see a box with a drop down menu called “All Goals”. Click on this and you will be able to see the tracking goal you just created.
So that’s it.. simple but yet powerful to track your statistics when it comes to your website.
