When it comes to making an effort to not be considered a so-called “loser”, a lot people focus there efforts in gaining a lot of money. But should money be the ultimate goal or should it be a means to achieve a certain lifestyle to rid of the things thats currently holding us back? I like to share my opinion on what’s more beneficial….
How many people do you know quit their jobs in order to follow their dreams even if they have to take a big pay cut? Well, out of all the people I know, I can only name one person.
She was making great money, very educated, independent and in a high position making 6 figures a year. She had a lot going for herself. At least according to societies standards.
The problem was that she just hated the way her life was going as far as her job. She had to get into the Los Angeles traffic everyday, and what’s worse was that her job was in Downtown L.A. which is one of the most congested areas in L.A.
After being there for about 10 years she finally decided to quit and go for her passion. Although it was a big pay cut, she was much happier and more fulfilled than working at a place that was draining her.
One of the things that she got back was time! She had more time to do the things she wanted to do outside of going for her passion.
The Reason To Have Residual Income Over Linear Income!
In the past I read a lot of Robert Kiyosaki books. As a matter of fact, I even actually purchased his game Cashflow which teaches you the basics of how to get out of the “rat race”. I do have to say that it was a mental experience the first time I played.
But anyways, I remember in one of his CD trainings, he mentions that the wealthy measures their wealth by how much time they have for themselves. Before that, I thought it was about how many assets you have and cash flow that was coming in. But in actuality, it was about how much freedom you have.
This is the reason why those that become wealthy will choose Residual income over Linear. If you don’t already know, Linear Income is where you trade your skills for time and money. So basically it would be the equivalent of working an 5 days a week, 8 hours a day job. If this is a job you enjoy doing and don’t mind the schedule, then definitely there’s nothing wrong with it. To each his/her own! But most people I know really hate their job because of the limited amount of time they have and limited amount of income they’re receiving.
Residual income on the other hand is where you do something once and get paid from it for the rest of your life. A great example are royalties paid to a musical artist. The artist can still get paid from a song they did 30 years, as long as there’s still a public interest. A lot of us still love those Oldie B Goodies, and as technology changes with media as well as future generations that love the music, that artist can just sit back, relax in Tahiti while their 30 year old work of art keeps them paid!
A lot of people have a why when it comes to starting a business from home. Probably one of the biggest reasons why, at least in my case, is for the time freedom. Having the time freedom to do what you want so that you don’t feel the restraints and having the limited amount of money coming in.
Since we have a limited amount of time here in this world, we want to make the best of it, right? For most of us, if we had a choice between working at a job until retirement age or being have to have bunch of assets spitting cash flow back at us without the need of employment, we would definitely wouldn’t look into employments way.
Because a lot of us have jobs that we don’t like! A lot of have a survival mentality. Why would we want to stress over going to this job to support our families where we can figure out a way to spend more time with them as well as our friends!
Given that we only have roughly 80 or 90 years to live in this world! So why spend the majority of that time doing something we don’t like doing?
This is the mindset of people who start businesses from home. We really want to take the control back of our time spent here in this world and we will definitely do what it takes to do it!
Now It’s Your Turn!
How important is time to you? What are you doing to take control back of your time? Do you really believe that time is more important than money? Please share your thoughts below in the comment section and share this post with your friends. I look forward to reading them!
