How many times have you come to a blog post and all can see is nothing but boring text. Not too exciting huh? This is what your readers feel and usually they don’t stay too long. Lets see how we can spruce up your blog posts a bit for your readers to stay longer…
What really draws you to a blog post?
How do you determined if you’re going to stay and read it?
Do you actually read each blog you come across word for word or do you scan it to find good points to focus on?
I’m probably like a lot of blog readers. I usually scan it and look for good points relating to the title. My goal is to find something that’s going to be of value to me and if the blog has a lot of great info. I’m definitely going to come back.
Yes I know I know, that’s just being selfish.
But isn’t most if not all blog readers are?
We do not want to waste too much time reading a blog that’s not value and hard to read. This is why it’s so vital to make your blog not only readable but also scannable.
When you do this, it makes it a lot easier for each of your readers. They can find the points that really catches their eye and focus on it.
I’ve came across quite a few blog posts that either just one big paragraph or it may have 3 or 4 paragraphs, but there was no “pizzazz” or appeal to it.
Believe or not, it’s the little things within your blog that actually influence your readers to come back for more. What do I mean by this? I’ll explain….
Yes I literally mean you can decorate your blog posts as if your decorating a Christmas Tree. I mean it wouldn’t be a Christmas Tree without all the decorations like the lights, ornaments, presents, etc.. right? Same goes for your blog. Here are a few things you can do to make it easy for your readers to read your blog:
Two things you don’t want to do: Have one long paragraph as your post or have a bunch of paragraphs all bunch up together. You don’t want your posts to look like a boring text book. So give each paragraph some space instead of packing them like a can of sardines.
H1, H2, H3, H4 Tags
When you’re trying to make a point, give it a header with your keywords. The headers come in different sizes (H1, H2, H3, H4). This makes it easer for your readers to scan down to what they’re looking for and read those points.
Your readers love pictures, especially if they relate to the topic. It gives them a mental image of what the topic is going to be about. They can be Serious, Funny, or Off The Wall, but it will draw a lot of attention.
You can use the bold features for keywords or links. When you bold certain words that relate to the topic of the paragraph and brings it out to your readers. Once this is done, the reader would usually want to get more detail of what you’re talking about within the paragraph.
This is usually done with titles, whether it be other blog posts or books. This definitely draws attention in a more indirect way. Sometimes it makes you do a double-take as you read the blog post
When you underline, this puts more emphasis or the word or phrase. This lets the reader know that this particular word or phrase is really important to know.
The goal of decorating your blog is really to make it easer for your audience to read. Also it’s very attractive to search engines, especially google. When google go through your blog posts, they use an algorithm to check for keywords, how they relate to the topic, and if they are “decorated”. Also, they see how much social proof you have by all the incoming links. Once the see all the comments and links coming into your website, then you get a good “grade” which is an indicator that you’re going to get a lot of traffic.
Now It’s Your Turn!
