If you want to be successful with your home businesses, you want to make sure that you’re building a great reputation. This is why it’s important to know how do people see you as. Are you valuable to them or just another marketer? Let’s see why know how people see you is important….
“The way to gain a good reputation is to endeavor to be what you desire to appear.” ~ Socrates
When people see you, do they say that you’re a person that always trying to sell them something or a person who is giving?
I don’t mean just giving value. I mean giving in a sense that they just want to be around you because you make them feel comfortable and at ease. It could online and offline, it doesn’t matter. You’re just someone that they just want to be around.
For most of us, we are so focus on building our businesses that we shun off being human. If you ever go to your businesses meetings or been on webinars where they talk about why we join an opportunity and why we stay, then you know what I’m talking about.
Yes there are a lot of opportunities out there, and we join to fulfill some personal needs, but if you’re around great people, you stay for the relationships. I believe this is true with any endeavor you come across.
I can remember when I first started job as a computer technician, I was just amazed at how the network was setup and my main focus was to learn all I can about it and how it worked. Well although it was exciting, the exciting didn’t last too long.
I found out that I was coming in to work because of the people more so than the technology that was there. A lot of my coworkers taught me a lot and also I clown around with them at times. I was lucky to be in this type of environment working with these types of different personalities. There were very few I didn’t get along with. But for the most part, they were the reasons why I love coming to work and on top of that, they love working with me as well as being around me.
Now when you’re talking to your prospects whether it be online, over the phone, or in person do they feel the same way about you? Are you always serious and “business-like”, or are you the type of person that they feel real comfortable around?
How To Focus On Being Attractive Than Being Serious
Now there’s nothing wrong with being serious from time to time. You still want people to have trust and faith in you too. But at the same time, you want them to be attracted to you by letting them be themselves around you. With this mixture, you can definitely build a big following! Here are 5 tips I came up with that I find important when dealing with people and growing your home business:
Do You Joke Around With Them?
Laughter is medicine to the soul. One way for people to feel comfortable around you is to joke around with them. Releasing stress is one common denominator that people don’t want to have. For a lot of your prospects and leads this may be their first time starting a home business. For others, they may have constantly failed at their previous home businesses and are little hesitant in starting a new one. So a great ice-breaker to help them feel at ease is to get them to laugh.
Do You Compliment?
Giving compliments is definitely underrated. You want people to feel confident around you, and what better way to do so is to compliment them. Point out something you like about them and/or what they’re doing. Let them know what you notice about them that very few have. This is a way to help them see what you see within them. They’ll definitely appreciate it.
Do You Offer Help?
Home business is not an “every man for himself” business. Offer some help. I’m not saying let them take advantage of you, but you want to show that you’re willing to offer some assistance with no strings attached. Often times I see people who will only connect with you only if you do business with them. This is definitely a No, No and is very unattractive. Find it within yourself why you want people to help you without owing them and see this in others.
Do You Give Great Recommendations That Resonates With Others?
I see a lot of people giving recommendations just for personal gain. People aren’t dumb. They can feel this. If you give recommendations and you’re going to get compensated for them, it shows great manners to let them know that. Outside of that, give recommendations that you know will help the other person whether you get compensated or not. This shows how much concerned you are about their success.
How Are You Building Other People?
Last but not least, you want to question yourself on how you’re building people up. This question sums up the previous questions. You want to evaluate how you’re doing at being a people person. Always see how you can improve. Ask yourself how you can be more genuinely attractive to others as far as your character. Once you start making this a habit, your results will speak for itself!

Hi Sherman,
This is another wonderful post from you. Network Marketing is a people business. When we treat others with respect, sincerity and generosity, others like us more.
Imagine that we give value, offer help, edify and compliment others, not as a means to an end, but as a way of living! Always focus on the other person is the best way to build rapport. Do this with sincerity. Not because that is the ‘secret’ for success.
Thanks, Sherman!

Some great tips Sherman!
I think far too many people are too serious. Probably because the believe that is how it is suppose to be.
Seems to happen alot with online marketing as well, people don’t let their real personality out. Maybe we get caught up trying to be professional?

Hi Sherman,
Wow, do others see us the way we want them too? Good question.
I just took a great course that asked some really essential questions to ponder about who we are in business and how we want to be known, for example, how do we want to be known in our niche and what do we want to be known for?
For me these questions are easier to answer for someone else but harder to answer for myself. Do you find that too?
But if you can clearly answer these questions for yourself it’s helpful in making sure you’re staying in line with how you want to be perceived.
Good stuff Sherman. This can take some soul searching but this is such an important part of helping us really examine our purpose and look in to whether or not others see us as we see ourselves.
Blessings,
Liz

Hey Liz,
This indeed takes a lot of soul searching in regards to how we want others to see us.
It’s funny you mention how we can easily answer this question for someone else, but it’s a big challenge for us to answer for ourselves.
Yes, for me it can be quite a challenge. This is why I analyze myself quite often. I do this to really connect with my true self, as well as project someone that people want to follow.
In all, people want to follow someone who is transparent, real, and serious about what they do. When you can figure out who you really are and how you really want to be treated then you know the answers to this question.
Thanks Liz!
