We’ve all seen people flash their money on facebook as well as other sites about people who join home businesses that projects that they’re making a lot of money. But does this projection really motivate people to go out and start a home business? Is it really money that gets people hyped up, or is it something else? Let’s dig a little deeper…
Yes, money does motivate people, but to a certain extent.
Money is the physical tool we use to get what we want. Correct? But there are so many people, including myself when I first started a business, that have this illusional, surface reason why that they started a business to make more money than they have.
We all know that this really isn’t the case..
But do you know why?
Well lets look at the wealthy..
Why do you start more businesses? Is it really because of money? Or is it something else? From a previous post, I explained that the wealthy measures their wealthy by not how much money they make, but by how much time that have.
You see, if you’re making 200,000 a year, but yet work 70 hours a week, and on top of that don’t enjoy what you’re doing, then would you be considered rich? To some people yes, but to you personally, it may feel a bit draining and less fulfilling.
Also you hear of cases of wealthy people who are depressed. They have all the success in the world and have many accomplishments, but yet still go through depression. We may think that they’re crazy for being so depressed, and if we can just trade shoes with them our lives will be so magnificent with a lot let stress.
Now what about those individuals that are making 50,000 a year or less, but yet are the happiest people in the world? They have great friends, family, living in a nice neighborhood, involved in different activities. Life is just so fulfilling and making more money would just be considered a “Bonus”. And you may know people who are like this.
So why is there a big difference between Wealthy people who feel depressed and unfulfilled, versus someone who would be considered middle class, but yet feels the joy of life and are just happen where their life currently is?
What’s Really Motivating?
I have to say that I thought about this topic after talking to a friend of mine by the name of Ron “Simplified” Myers. This is one of his favorite topics to talk about and he is actually a home business entrepreneur who is about to write a book on the different relationships you’ll have in your life such as relationships with money, yourself, business etc. You can check out his site at http://www.whoisron.info .
But one thing we both concluding is that depending on the person, there are those things that motivate us more than just money itself. You see, money in and of itself is an inanimate object. If it doesn’t have any type of purpose then it’ll just be a sitting duck.
But the real motivational factor is what money can do! As what Mike Dillard mentioned in his Magnetic Sponsor if you want to drill a hole in a 2×4, then you’re going to need the right tool. In our case, money is the tool to achieve certain wants and needs.
If we focus on money more so than what it can do, we become more materialistic. We tend to take away the real purpose of the money we want and desire. And when people feel that you have no true purpose, they reject anything you convey to them. They see you as someone that looks at them as a “bank”.
So you definitely want to focus on the real motivating factor. Whether it is to spend more time with family, having more time for yourself, pay for your kids college education, have something to pass down to the next generation, or whatever it may be, you want to go beyond the inanimate object of money.
When it comes to making money online or offline, there will definitely be some challenges. There will be people that will challenge you and of course there will be some ups and downs. It can definitely drain you of your energy and you’ll feel like giving up.
But if you focus on the purpose of making extra money, and what money can do for you, you can start the rejuvenation process. There is always a fun side going through this journey, and this is the side you want to keep a hold of. Whether it may be blogging, PPC, meeting people at different business meetings, or whatever strategy you use, this will help with your motivation and momentum.
As I’ve said in previous posts, if you can show some excitement and interest in what you do, it will definitely carry over to others. When people respond the way you want, then this will definitely add on to the motivation!
Now It’s Your Turn!
