CAN YOU RELATE TO MY STORY?

Hi everyone, I’m glad your taking the time to read my story. I’m hoping that you can relate to it. If not, then thats ok. But if you’re reading this, more than likely you have your challenges in network marketing like the rest of us network marketers. And if you are looking to get into network marketing, It’s the greatest industry to get into for the average person although there are these challenges.

You probably heard these stories many times of being raised to get a great education so you can get a stable job with great benefits. Well, I’m no exception.

As a matter of fact, I remember as a freshman in school, we had assemblies just about every week. One Assembly comes to mind. There were these guys who had PHDs that came to give us “pep talk”.

Come to find out, at one point in their lives, these guys were homeless. Now this really confused me. I didn’t understand how you can have a PHD and be homeless.

Well anyways, I did what my teachers and parents told me, despite what I saw as a freshman. I got my degree and certifications, and ended up making minimum wage doing phone support.

Don’t you think there’s something wrong with that picture?

Anyways, I quite that job and found another job working for a University?

I was so happy because it was just 5 minutes from my job so I use to get to work early and leave late.

One one problem. I didn’t last no more than 9 months there. How odd can that be?

What’s even worse was It took me 7 months to find another job and on top of that my unemployment was running out. Not a great place to be ya think?

You know when you get to the point where you don’t know where tomorrow brings, you get to thinking that there’s gotta be a better way.

Well you know what, there’s definitely is, and this is where my entrepreneur journey began!

THE DEBUT TO NETWORK MARKETING

It was 2007, I’ve been working in IT (Information Technology) at the school district for 5 years now, and although it is a decent time I was still up for being laid off. The bad thing about it is that they have been talking about lay offs ever since I got there. Scary thing to think about!

Anyways, I was always up for looking for something to invest in. I had started my own business fixing computers which wasn’t going so well and I had invested in a couple of homes which didn’t go well at all.

One day when I got off work, a friend of mine who happened to be my financial planner, asked me what I was doing the next week and that he had something to SHOW ME. Have you ever had that friend that always had something to show you? Usually it’s some type of business idea.

Anyways, I put it off for months and kept asking me to come down to a MEETING. One day I finally gave in and decided to go.

And behold, it was one of THOSE THINGS! You know those business pyramid things where they show you how great the product or service is, and they show you some type of pay scale thing where they talk about all the amounts of money you can make.

And these people were hyped up about. I mean overzealous about it. On top of that they had proof that it works with their own stories and the stories of others. And they said it was easy to do, and all I had to do is hand out a DVD.

I was so pissed off that he brought there, but I figured that I knew and trusted him, and that fact that he is my financial planner that I’d go ahead and sign up with them. Besides all I had to do was hand out DVD’s right!!!!

Well easier said than done! Although I had great successes within my first 2 years in network marketing, they actually really sucked at the same time. But there’s a saying that goes like this:

“It is a mistake to suppose that people succeed through success; they often succeed through failures.”

YOUR EXPERIENCE IS MY EXPERIENCE

The first 3 months of doing this business I was just TRYING IT OUT. I wasn’t overzealous about it like those in that first meeting. Besides they weren’t the ones that got me in, it was a friend of mine.

So I did the usual with my sponsor. I made a list of family and friends, and either gave them a call or exposed them with the DVD.

For the most part I didn’t have any success at it, and my lack of confidence wasn’t helping either. So either way it goes I was actually preparing myself for FAILURE.

One day in January of 2008, I decided to watch the DVD again, and all of a sudden, something triggered within me, and I started to become more serious about the business.

I started going to meetings, started buying more materials, and actually started exposing strangers which was very unlike me. I’m pretty laid back, conservative, timid, and really hated the idea of approaching strangers.

I use to just bug people, had the phone hung up on me, been yelled at, and even had an exchange of bad words ;) . But the Pressure was on. I had to become successful even though I had a lot of embarrassing moments.

I had no TARGET MARKET and quite frankly I was oblivious to the fact that it’s best to have one. This means I was exposing everyone you can think of which is a no no.

Although I was stepping out of my COMFORT ZONE, I started recruiting one or two people a month, which is pretty darn good for someone that really had no idea of what he was doing. But keep in mind I was recruiting just anybody and the majority of the ones I recruiting weren’t willing to do what it takes to become successful. As a consequence, my business didn’t go no where.

Although I was going to all the meetings, reading books, watching DVDs, and listening to inspirational CDs, it just wasn’t coming together at that time. I don’t know if you can relatE, but have you ever had all the materials you needed to become successful and it still didn’t come together to make sense!

THE TURNING POINT, THE EPIPHANY

As you know I use to go to all of these meetings and I did take a lot of notes. One of the leaders in the company had the infamous saying “Massive Exposure, Means Massive Income”. I use to hear this all the time, but I wasn’t listening.

In the meantime, It came to a point to where I started to buy leads and did cold calling. If you don’t know what cold calling is, this where you call up complete strangers and “CONVINCE” them to join your company. This is a definite no no in network marketing, but you job is to MARKET and not convince.

Anyways I use to have this long script that my team downloaded and we would make calls at one of the leaders home. This leader was a 6 figure earner which took him about 3 years which is pretty fast. One day he was listening to my calls and advice me to get rid of the script I was using and use his. Well you know I jumped on it!!

I was surprise that the script was a simple 3 sentence script. He told that was all you have to say. I was puzzled, but eventually I started using it. But still I was unsuccessful.

I really was getting frustrated and I knew the him and the rest of the leaders were doing something different. Especially using the script he gave me because it just couldn’t be that easy. But then again he was recruiting about 4 to 5 people a month effortlessly.

So I started looking to the internet for answers. For weeks I would do research on how a lot of people were becoming successful. I found many answers, but couldn’t put it together. I also found out that there were a lot of people who were struggling with their network marketing business which made it better for me because at that moment it felt like I wasn’t the only one.

Until finally, I put together the saying “Massive Exposure Means Massive Income” and the 3 sentence script and it just hit me all of a sudden. Once I realize how this thing called network marketing works, I really felt like an pure idiot.

I then understood why the majority of those who have a strong sales background do not do well in network marketing. MARKETING is the umbrella that covers consists of advertising, public relations, brand marketing, viral marketing, direct mail and includes SALES, which is a process in itself, while Marketing itself makes the preparation to attract customers and leaders, the sales is the interpersonal interaction with your prospects.

WHAT DID I DO THAT CAN REALLY HELP YOU?

Since I finally found out what marketing really is, I still couldn’t put together what I learned in all of those conferences and meetings.

As I kept doing research on the internet I registered for peoples blogs, went through their network marketing boot camps, and downloaded many ebooks. They were all very, very helpful, but still the information was just data and trivial. I couldn’t put it all together and the information started to get overwhelming.

I was getting so frustrated because I had so many answers and didn’t know what to do with them. How many of you can relation when you’re frustrated and overwhelmed with information that you find impossible to put together?

But what if you found something that you use all the time to stay in contact with friends and family?
