As entrepreneurs selling ourselves to prospects is a top priority if we want to grow our home businesses. Being able to so sell yourself so people can like you as a person to earn their trust is a must. Let’s look at some ways to achieve this …
When it comes to being an entrepreneur, having good people skills comes in handy. If you’re someone that can go to a party, mingle, meet interesting people, and have people like you, then being an entrepreneur is a peace of cake.
Now if you’re someone that’s not like this, there’s always hope and you still have some unique qualities that people in general are attracted to.
Like anything else, you can turn your weaknesses into strengths.
But here’s the stereotype that a lot of people associate with the word “selling”. A lot of us associate selling to the fast-talking, no nonsense, verbal hypnotic, sleazy salesperson that can sell ice to an eskimo.
I have to blame television for emphasizing this stereotype. This is probably why most people do not want to get into businesses with a network marketing or affiliate marketing business model.
They’re afraid that they have to fulfill this hype about selling, where in fact it’s totally different. Now I’m not saying that there aren’t personalities out there thats like this, but there are many different people who work in sales that do not have this personality type.
As a matter of fact, your personality and character is going to be the chore of your sales. From there you’ll build the skill set to not only to get better at sales, but to also bring out your personality and character even more.
Keep in mind that people are attracted to people, and you’ll be the middle man to sell or sponsor to fulfill a lack of or a need(s) of your prospects.
So this brings us to the topic of how you can sell yourself to your prospects….
When it comes to selling yourself, Personal Branding is the main objective. When it comes to personal branding you want to build a reputation that your prospects will be attracted to. When you build an attractive, reputable personal brand, you will definitely build a nice following. So here are some tips to build a great reputation:
Be Genuinely interested In People
People can smell a rat from far away, so never come fake. Find something that you like about a person and become interested in them. For example, take notice of people who may work in customer service like a waiter, people that work in hotel lobby, tech support, etc… Ask questions about their jobs, training, work load, their interest, etc..
This can be tied into the first tip and giving compliments go a long way too. You may want to compliment someone’s clothes, smile, how hard they work, and so on. There’s a lot of people that rarely give compliments and by you doing so can make their day better. If they’re in another home business, complimenting them on their choice instead of trying to sponsor them will definitely give you a great reputation as well as getting referrals.
Remember Their Names
This makes people feel important. If you can remember the names of each person you meet, you will be looked upon as someone special. I do have to admit, I’m bad with names but another alternative that goes well with me is that I remember what they do for a living, where they live, the stories they tell me, and so on… It shows that I listen to them. Which brings us to the next tip
Be A Great Listener
Don’t do all the talking because that turns people off. Encourage your prospects to talk and listen intently. It’s funny how amazed people are when you can actually remember what they told you even not seeing them for a while.
Always Give Value
You definitely want to be known as someone that always have solutions to your prospects problem. I know that I keep talking about giving value to your prospects in past post, but it goes a long way. Giving Value is the key to building a huge following no matter what company you get involved with.
Now this isn’t the stereotypical salesperson’s approach but its a way to draw people into you whether you sell or sponsor them or not. This is more of an indirect approach, but at the same time, not only it’s these are great business approaches, but this is something you can just apply in life in general as far as building great relationships.
