Are you desperate enough to try to convince people to join and/or buy from you?

“The difference between a helping hand and an outstretched palm is a twist of the wrist.” ~ Laurence Leamer

The question a lot of us need to ask ourselves is “Am I really helping this person?”

We all have either similar marketing strategies, or different marketing strategies for our business, but are we all putting the information out there just to make money, or are we all concern about the success of other’s as well as ourselves?

In a previous post, I talk about Hunger and the 3 MOTIVATIONAL LEVELS OF HUNGER. The highest motivational level is having a SENSE OF PURPOSE, but a lot of us network/internet marketers do not show for it in our strategies.

If you would like to read that post it’s called You Got To Be Hungry!!!

What do I mean by purpose? Well I believe that we all hold a responsibility to see that we all help each other obtain the success that we want.

That’s really what the purpose of the network marketing business model is. What other business models do you know of where people can become financially successful and/or surpass those above them without waiting for anyone to retire, get fired, die, or get laid off?

There isn’t any I can think of unless you can.

It’s great that more and more people each day are realizing this industry is a great opportunity to get involved in, and many people will reach their goals, but a lot of us need to put our marketing strategies in check!

WHAT DO I MEAN?

If you’re posting your opportunity on people’s walls without their permission, then you need to put your strategy in check.

If you only promote or leave a link to your opportunity after you confirmed a friend request, then you need to put your strategy in check.

If you only leave a link to your opportunity as a comment on someone’s blog post, then you need to put your strategy in check.

If you only leave a link to your opportunity as a comment after someone else commented, thinking it will help you drive traffic, then you need to put your strategy in check.

There’s more but I think we all get the picture!

We all want to become successful in this industry, but at the same time we all want to be able to stick out as a person of VALUE instead of being a person of SELFISHNESS and DESPERATION.

Another important question you want to ask yourself is “What am I doing to add value to someone else’s life each day?”

Do you believe leaving a link with little to no sincere rapport built is really adding value to the people you come in contact with?

In my last post You Want The Feeling That Money Gives You, Right? I emphasized that true prospecting is focusing on people, not how you can recruit them into your business.

When you put most of your focus on people, this creates attraction. Notice the difference between these approaches:

Focusing On Recruiting

Look at this once in a lifetime business opportunity!
You will make $500/day if you join right now!
I will put 30 people under you if you join by this weekend!
We have the best products out of all the MLM companies, so its in your best interest to join now!
I never seen any comp plan like this. I’m making a $1000/week!
You can turn $25 dollars into a fortune!
Do me a favor and check this video out!
I can save you money on your phone and gas bills, here’s my link!

vs.

Focusing On People

What are you struggling with in your business?
How can I help you reach the next level?
How much money are you looking to make?
With that extra money, what’s the first thing you want to do if you don’t mind me asking?
What type of business are you looking for?
What do you want to achieve?
Are you looking to get into online marketing to expand your business?
Would you like to see what I’m doing if you’re looking to start a business?
Do you want me to send you information on how to start a blog and driving traffic to it?
Would you like for me to send you a video of the system that’s helping me?
If you’re looking for a tool to help you drive traffic, there are two thats helping me and my team. Would you like for me to send you information about it?
If you need anything, please let me know.

Judging from these two approaches, if two people, one focusing on recruiting and the other focusing on people, would approach you, who would you most likely be attracted to? The one that’s trying to convince you to get into their business and/or buy their products, or the one that’s trying to help you achieve your goals?

TO YOUR SUCCESS!!!

Yes focusing on people is the key Sherman. Their needs, their wants, and their struggles. This is payed me huge dividends in my business. This is a great post and if only marketers would grasp the concepts you write about in this post. Most marketers would be great if they did.

      Hey Robin,

Focusing on customer ends, wants and struggles is the true way of prospecting and if would definitely be great if the majority of marketers would think like that. Thanks for stopping by!

    Hi Sherman,

It all goes back to: People do business with or buy from someone they know, like, and trust. If you are using the first example to recruit people, how are you ever going to do this with that type of approach?

Thanks for sharing this valuable message Sherman.

      Hey Steven,

You hit it on the nail! It’s definitely hard to attract people with the first approach versus the second approach. Thanks for stopping by!

    Hey Sherman,

Great post! It’s clear the group that attract people.

Right before I came over here, I was having a conversation with someone who messaged me her opportunity, I responded like I said on my blog and later switched to a common interest we have: Christianity.

She could not believe I’d give her so much for FREE (I found out she just started out) and that I’d be interested in her and her interest, compared with me shoving my hands in her bag, lol, to look for her money.

It’s a paradigm shift, Sherman and only those who are involved in giving value can really understand it.

Again, great post! Thanks for sharing, Sherman!

    Hey Tosin,

Now that is a great example! You were more focused on the person than what was in her pocket. You were more genuine in your approach and found out the both of you have something in common.

It is definitely a paradigm shift, and if you can’t learn how to attract people, then it’s really going to be difficult to become success.

    Thanks for stopping by Tosin!

I love that you mention that there is a basic motivation or hunger and that there are multiple levels of this, the highest being purpose. This is key, especially because a lot of people in our industry see new members of their team as being “motivated” or “not motivated” without looking at WHAT is motivating them.

As you pointed out, someone can be motivated by personal gain or by service to others and they are vastly different in how they feel as well as the results that are possible by focusing higher.

      Hey Paul,

This is why the art of asking questions is so vital if you want to become successful as well as your team. It makes a world of difference if you focus on what’s motivating people to decide to do what they are currently doing or what they want to do to reach a certain goal. Hi Sherman,

This is attraction marketing at its finest. People know if you are at the forefront of your motives, or if they are. If you want to help, no strings attached, it works far better. And hey, if they wanna see what you have to offer, that’s cool to.

Much less overwhelming, and no pressure, with that approach than if they feel they might find themselves in the uncomfortable position of having to say no.

I like what you said about focusing on people. You are more focused on finding what he or she needs and you are more interested about them. If your prospect can see that you are there to help them then they will trust you and that would lead to signing them up into your business opportunity.
