Branding: Represent Yourself With A Signature

  • Sharebar

“Regardless of age, regardless of position, regardless of the business we happen to be in, all of us need to understand the importance of branding. We are CEOs of our own companies: Me Inc. To be in business today, our most important job is to be head marketer for the brand called You.”
Tom Peters

If you’re American, and not a history buff, you most likely heard of John Hancock.

Now let me ask you this, besides his signature on the Declaration Of Independence, can you tell me why was he an important figure in U.S. History?

Don’t cheat!

Although he was an important figure in the independence of the United States, most Americans only remember him because of his signature.

But I do have to admit, I did a little research before I started this blog on John Hancock because I didn’t know why he was important.

Now where am I going with this?

The point it to show another side of branding, which is your personal signature.

In the case of John Hancock:

1. His signature was very unique to him
2. It showed what he believed in
3. It was very valuable
4. With the value it helped the colonies unite to become the USA

In your case:

1. Your signature is unique to you
2. Your signature shows what you believe in
3. And more importantly your signature helps to establish trust

How does it establish trust?

- It brands you because people will be able to recognize you through your signature.
- It shows your character and who you are by how you write
- It shows what you believe in and what you’re passionate about
- It shows that you are a real person

If you haven’t noticed already, I put my signature at the bottom of this post. I did this for free at www.mylivesignature.com. Check it out when you get a chance.

    Hi Sherman

The signature looks good my friend and what you write about is very true. It’s an important part of our branding. Your blog is really looking great Sherman. Well done. By the way did you change the size of your RSS/Email widget. It looks smaller than mine and for some reason refuses to load properly. I have yet to find any settings for it.

      Hey Marcus,

Thanks for your comment. I’ll have to make some adjustments to the RSS feed. One option you can do for now is go to http://www.twitterfeed.com and add my blog as a feed so it’ll post on your wall. I did the same with yours. Take care!!
